Chapter 15 - Field Trials

What is the purpose of field trials? To find the best shooting dog on that day. And for what purpose? One presumes to assist in selective breeding, although no mention is made of this, and to check that the winner is a good specimen of the breed, free from hereditary defects and of good temperament. The accent is on winning. A field trial is a competition, run under a set of rules and to a standard controlled by rules which the judge must adhere to.
